Deinze
A mixed-use development is envisioned on the market square of Deinze, introducing a multi-family residential building within a highly distinctive urban context. The location, defined by its architectural presence and public character, demands a carefully considered response in which architecture becomes a key contributor to the identity of the square.
The project combines commercial, private, and semi-public functions, creating a layered programme that activates both the public realm and the residential environment above. At street level, the architectural plinth establishes a strong relationship with the market square, reinforcing the urban continuity while accommodating lively commercial activity.
Particular attention is given to the added value generated through the use of high-quality materials and a carefully composed façade rhythm. Vertical articulation and material refinement introduce a sense of order and elegance, allowing the building to integrate into its surroundings while maintaining a distinct architectural expression.
Above the four-storey plinth, a recessed upper level is introduced. This setback is achieved through the use of a unified material palette combined with a deliberate depth articulation, softening the overall volume and enhancing the perception of scale within the urban fabric.
A project in which programme, materiality, and architectural rhythm converge — shaping a contemporary intervention rooted in the character and significance of the Deinze market square.
