In Lauwe, an existing single-family house has been carefully reworked into a highly energy-efficient home. The original volumes are retained and subtly enhanced, brought into dialogue through a series of measured interventions and discreet extensions. This approach sharpens the building’s volumetric clarity while preserving its inherent character.

A varied internal landscape emerges through the interplay of split levels, each defining its own spatial atmosphere and framing distinct relationships with the surrounding context. Rather than overwrite the existing structure, the design embraces its qualities, reinforcing them within a contemporary architectural framework.

The volumes extend beyond the building’s immediate footprint. Internally, they are deployed with intent, shaping generous and functional spatial zones. This approach allows for a seamless continuity between inside and outside, strengthening the connection between architecture and its environment.

The result is a house in which volumetric composition articulates a clear relationship between built form and context, expressed through a precise and confident architectural language.
